When someone you love is in pain, it’s natural to want to comfort them; to reassure them that everything will be okay. Unfortunately, when you are dealing with permanent changes like death, sometimes this simply isn’t the case.

You can’t promise things will be fine, because they won’t be.

You can’t emphasize sunshine and positivity, because this won’t bring their loved one back from the dead.

Sometimes the greatest thing you can do for your loved one is to sit with them and acknowledge that the death of their loved one is a permanent heartache.

Sometimes the greatest thing you can do is to honor that heartache, and allow it the space to exist in whatever form it needs.
