One of the things that bothered me in my early days of grief was this sentiment of “Just keep going. One day you can help other people through this too.”
The thing is, I don’t think that should be an obligation.
Plenty of people going through loss and grief find themselves struggling, months or even years later, and that’s okay. Loss and grief are hard. No one is required to overcome their pain or transform their struggles into anything.
Sometimes it’s an achievement simply to wake up in the morning, and make an effort at going about your day.

Notes for the Bereaved:
You are under no obligation to turn your tragedy into something beautiful.
You are allowed, todays and always, simply to exist.
