People sometimes ask me if my daughter is my first child. I needed a simple way to tell them I had a child before her, but he died. When people ask me now, I have a simple response.
Stillborn babies don’t get a birth certificate
- Although stillborn babies are STILL born, they generally don’t receive a birth certificate. This is another layer of pain on top of the death of one’s child.

Money is a difficult subject in general. It doesn’t surprise me, then, that money matters associated with death are doubly hard. I never thought I would be reading about the financial “benefits” of losing a child. I never thought anything like that would be relevant to me.
